Liturgy Committee Ministries and Organizations

Altar Servers:

All children of the parish (fifth grade and older) are eligible to become Altar Servers, the only requirement being a willingness to be of service at the Altar of the Lord.

Altar Society:

Volunteers from the parish who take care of the altar linens, vestments, and cleaning the sanctuary .

Church Environment:

Decorators of the Church for the important events during the Liturgical Year, e.g. Advent, Christmas, Lent, Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Easter, Pentecost and Confirmation when needed.

Eucharistic Adoration:

Every Tuesday, September through June, Eucharistic Adoration takes place between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. If you are interested in keeping company with Jesus and can spare 15 minutes or more, please contact the coordinator. If you can’t commit to every week, please stop by for a visit with our Lord when you can.

Extraordinary Ministers:

These dedicated men and women assist in the distribution of Holy Communion during Mass and also bring Communion to the sick and homebound on a weekly basis. A period of training precedes one’s commissioning as a Special Minister of the Eucharist. Usually parishioners are contacted by the Pastor and invited to become an Extraordinary Minister.

Music Ministry (Adult/Youth Choir & Cantors)

The Music Ministry encompasses the Adult Choir, Youth Choir, and Cantors. Our goal is to praise our God and to lead His people in worship every time we gather together in church. The Adult Choir Director prepares music selections for Sunday worship and other Liturgical functions, presides over rehearsals, teaching music and listening for problem spots.
The Youth Choir is for students in grades 3 -12 and practices every Sunday morning at 8:30 am in church. The Adult Choir is for those older than 12th grade and rehearsals are Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm in church.

Ushers

Ushers are a friendly and welcoming presence to those coming to worship at Queen of Peace. The ushers assist in the orderly execution of the Church functions and celebrations. They also help by distributing the announcements after each Mass.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults prepares men and women to receive the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist – and some to be full members of the Church.

Volunteer catechists are the heart and soul of our Parish Religious Education Program. They are committed to presenting the message of Jesus Christ in word and deed. If you have a desire to share your faith and are confident and comfortable with a group of children, perhaps the Holy Spirit is prompting you!

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Held during the 11:00 Mass. Our program is offered to children pre-k through 3rd grade. The Sunday readings are read and explained to the children at their level of understanding and they return to the congregation for the offertory.

Finance Council

In accordance with the revised Code of Canon Law, our parish has established a council composed of men and women selected by the parishioners and the pastor who are to advise him in the financial matters of the parish.

Pastoral Council

The Pastoral Council is an advisory board selected by the parishioners and the pastor. Their concern is to help the pastor with the vision and the direction of the parish in the years ahead as well as the present. They look at the spiritual, social, and structural needs of the parish

Community Service/Social Ministries and Organizations

American Red Cross Blood Drive

Blood Drive that currently takes place in Lynaugh Hall twice a year in early October and late March. Several volunteers give about an hour of their time to call prior donors from the parish and surrounding area to schedule appointments. We also have a representative from the parish at the drive to greet the donors.

Athletic Ministry

Caring for Friends

A program to provide meals for the isolated home-bound. Fill trays with a balanced meal (usually leftovers from dinner). Freeze the trays and place in the freezer in Lynaugh Hall.

Collection Counters

Purpose: to count all gifts received from the weekend Masses, Holidays, and all other special collections. Parishioners are contacted by the Pastor and invited to become a Counter.

Garden Club

This group cares for and maintains the flower beds of the parish campus.

Leisure Club

Where friends come together to join in a relaxing atmosphere of games, entertainment, and travel, in addition to discussing and acting on matters concerning the Club. Meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at the Jenkintown VFW.

Lenten Soups

This group makes a variety of meatless soups that are shared in Lynaugh Hall during each Friday evening in Lent.

Men of Queen of Peace (MOQOP)

A social and spiritual organization for all men of the parish 18 and older. Organization meets 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM.

Respect Life/Pro Life

This organization gathers with respect life groups from other local parishes to pray for and promote awareness and respect for all human life. It also organizes activities for Respect Life Month and “March for Life.”

Scrip Gift Card Program

This is a gift card/gift certificate program in which the parish purchases the gift cards at a discount and sold to parishioners at face value. The difference – or credits – are then shared between the parish (25%), the Scrip Program (5% to defer shipping costs), and the tuition account of parishioners, their friends, or a family in need (70%). Credits are used to offset cost of tuition and fees to any school ~ preschool, elementary school, high school, public school fees, trade school, or college.

Seniors

This active social group holds monthly activities and conducts many trips. The group meets once a month (3rd Wednesday of the month) in Lynaugh Hall.

Social/Hospitality Committee

This group helps plan, organize, and serve refreshments after various special Masses, functions, gatherings, and meetings. Volunteers are always needed to bake, set up, serve, and clean up. Information is sent via email when volunteers are needed.

Sodality
